Lorehammer - A Warhammer 40k Podcast

Lorehammer is a podcast that focuses on the lore of the Warhammer 40k setting. In each episode we talk about a specific aspect of the universe, sharing known information followed by a discussion portion. Easily digestible, informative and entertaining, welcome to Lorehammer.

What is Warhammer 40,000

August 27th, 2020

With the advent of 9th edition and Games Workshop's #new40k, we decided to create an episode that we think highlights the most important aspects of Warhammer 40,000. This episode is meant to be a place where those who have little to no knowledge of the universe can learn just enough to get their gears turning. There are many different ways to experience the grim darkness of the far future, and this episode will hopefully give you enough direction to choose a path catered just for you!

Joining us for this episode, is our faithful friend James, Bane of Mantis Shrimps.

Listener Lore 12

August 8th, 2020

Welcome back to our Listener Lore series! In this episode, we read about Miriam's Necron, the Nihivokh Dynasty, Matthew's Heretic Mutants of Nurien Alpha, Geoff's Imperial Guard Regiment, the Fenrisian Einherjar, Niko's Forgeworld of Cedrinum, and Sam's Adeptus Astartes Chapter, the Abyssal Krakens.

If you would like your own stories shared on our podcast, send us an email at lorehammerpodcast@gmail.com.

76 - Chaos Undivided

July 29th, 2020

Chaos is all around us. It permeates our every action. It whispers an ancient truth in every ear. It fulfills our every desire and grants us power beyond our wildest dreams. All it asks in return, is your gratitude. Your devotion. Your worship.

Truly I say to you, Chaos is worthy of your sacrifice.

In this episode we discuss the idea of an Undivided Chaos. Worshiping Chaos shouldn't be limited to just one god, as all deserve your attention.

Joining us for this episode are Sam, and for the last time Chris.

75 - The Farsight Expedition

July 16th, 2020

What should have been a triumphant reclamation of Tau worlds in the wake of the Damocles Crusade became a mark of shame for the Tau Empire. One Tau's struggle to protect his people from the terrors of space turned into a rebellion against his masters. In this episode, we talk about the trials and tribulations that O'Shovah went through, and how the Expedition evolved from a crusade of righteousness to a force which would crack their very belief in the Tau ideology.

Joining us for the first time in this episode are Logan and Corbin.

If you want to get involved with our Liber Malleus project, check out our Facebook.

74 - Necron Warcrypts

July 1st, 2020

Science so advanced it baffles the simple mind. Captured star hearts and contained singularities are just a couple of the ways that the Necron wage war. The magnitude of their brilliance is only subdued by the scope of their imagination. Their machines float above the carnage they dole out, crackling energy discharging from weapons to flay their enemies molecule by molecule. Doom has come.

In this episode we talk about the many different vehicles that the Necron race wages war with. Joining us for this episode are Rio and Micah.

73 - Tyranids: Non-Synapse Creatures

June 18th, 2020

The Imperium would have you believe that the Tyranid race follows a simple rule, "Cut off the head, and the body soon follows." And while there is an essence of truth in that statement, it does not mean your fight is any less dangerous. They would have you believe that the Tyranid species that find themselves out of the range of their synapse are dumb and helpless creatures.

Allow me to assure you; they are not. The fight for your life has only begun.

This episode is all about the Tyranid species that don't have a direct link to the Hive Mind, and about how they act when they cannot be controlled by the Hive Mind. Joining us are James and Iain.

Listener Lore 11

June 12th, 2020

Welcome back to our Listener Lore episodes! We took a small break from them as we focused on other aspects of Lorehammer, but we're back in full force now! Back and better than ever! The best in fact! BETTER THAN THE BEST!

For this episode we read about Raaptors987's Astartes the Stormbreakers, Joshua's Necron the Nyuserra Dynasty, Tomas' Sisters of Battle and the Order of the Crimson Lily, and Alex's Orks the Bleachskullz.

If you would like to submit your own stories for us to share please email us at lorehammerpodcast@gmail.com

72 - Waaagh! Energy and Weirdboyz

June 3rd, 2020

Concerning Orks and the Warp.

Manifesting warp energy has always been risky business, and nobody knows this better than the Ork. An unfortunate circumstance of the Ork race is their inability to control their tides and ebbs of power. Orks being Orky tends to unconsciously generate more Waaagh! energy around them, and Orks do love to be Orks. This has catastrophic consequences for Weirdboyz, and any other Orks around them. Please listen to episode 72 for more information about this peculiar phenomenon within the Ork species.

This episode is all about the Waaagh! energy built up by the Ork species, and how they deal with it.

Joining us for this episode are Jordan and Skyler.

71 - Wych Cults

May 20th, 2020

The sands of the arena. Millions of screaming blood-thirsty Drukhari. You awaken to these, and your heart sputters as your stomach drops. Your death is soon. You know it, the captivated audience knows it, and the Wych stalking you is the reason. There is no escape once you are in the coliseum. There is only death. And it can't come fast enough... Because first, you must learn pain.

In this episode we talk about Wych Cults! These Drukhari fulfill a very special role within the Labyrinthine Dimension, keeping the masses satiated.

Joining us for the first time, is Brianna, and Chris for the last time.

70 - The Aeldari Path of the Dead

May 6th, 2020

You never saw it coming. It sneaked up on you, like the first solar snow of the cycle. You slowly look up from the blade piercing your belly into the eyes of a Space Marine. You spit. They are filthy creatures, brainwashed servants of a Corpse-Emperor. You raise your pistol for one last shot, and your vision fades. In a violent torrent, you burst out of your body. The Empyrean calls, and you feel drawn to its crooning. And yet, something holds you back. Something begins to tug you the other way, back toward reality. You... twist and turn, and there it is, your new haven. Shining as bright as a thousand suns it overtakes your senses, until you see nothing else. Piece by infinitesimally small piece you are drawn into this Stone. This protected place. As the tumult of this experience wanes, you take comfort in the knowledge that She who Thirsts has been denied your soul. Your Path of the Dead has begun.

In this episode we discuss what happens to an Eldar after they die. Where do they go? What do they do? And maybe most importantly, why do they do this?

Joining us for this episode are James, and Rio.

69 - Legio Cybernetica

April 23rd, 2020

Metal monsters. Amalgamations of alloy and automation. The Legio Cybernetica have been creating nightmares for tens of thousands of years. They have a dark and mysterious past, and would do their best to make sure it remains that way. They are the robotic branch of the Adeptus Mechanicus, and only concern themselves with pure robotics. In this episode we discuss everything from robots to A.I. It's especially good since none of us know what we are talking about.

Joining us for todays release are Micah, and for the last time, Christian.

Lorehammer Lockdown: Lorehammer vs. Star Lores

April 12th, 2020

For this last Lockdown episode, we managed to get the cast of the Star Lores podcast in our studio!! What a stroke of luck! We tackle many of the burning questions like, is a Jedi or a Space Marine stronger? Which universe is bigger? And most importantly, why is 40k better than Star Wars? You can expect to find answers to these important issues in this final Lockdown episode.

Joining us for this episode is Jordan, and for the last time Chris.

Lorehammer Lockdown: Nathan and James

April 12th, 2020

We're almost done releasing our Lockdown content, but before we did, we wanted to give you a taste of what it felt like to hear our gaming smack talk. It turns out that we are a little salty at Iron Hands... interesting...

Joining us on this episode are James and Nathan.

Lorehammer Lockdown: Cold Open Stories with Colyn

April 10th, 2020

This episode is a love letter to everyone that contributes to the Warhammer 40k universe. All we want to do is see more and more people get into 40k and appreciate it for what it is. We want people to write stories, play epic battles, model awesome minis, and film great shows. And the more that we focus on including people in the artistic process the more ideas and talent that we will have access to.

Listen to Colyn share some of the AMAZING success that he has had with his Cold Open Stories. Fully endorsed by Lorehammer. 10/10. Would audition again. No matter that he didn't pick me to be in it. It's fine. I barely even remember the role. It's not like I wrote extensive backstory for him...

Lorehammer Lockdown: Meet Woody!

April 9th, 2020

Hopefully by this point you've passed the halfway point in your 14 days self isolation. We want you to know that we're here for you. Metaphorically. Figuratively. I mean... stay 6 feet away... but here's a virtual hug from us to you!

In this episode, we chat with one of the original fans of Lorehammer. Woody has been listening to us since almost day one, and has supported us tremendously these past almost 3 years!

Lorehammer Lockdown: Late Night Talks with Matt

April 8th, 2020

In this Lockdown we chatted with someone on the other side of the ocean! WOAH! Isn't that just neato? Technology is amazing! I mean, just the other day I was sitting on the couch, watching a youtube video on my tv while I played on my switch while I talked on my phone and music was playing in the room. I might be going crazy.

In this episode Matt shares his plan for starting a 40k RPG game that he will host on our discord! As well, we talk about role playing specifically within the 40k universe, and Matt shares many little tidbits and goodies from the perspective of a Game Master.

68 - Primaris Marines

April 7th, 2020

"They were forged for Mankind's darkest hour - and that hour is upon us."

— Lord Commander Roboute Guilliman

With the resurrection of Roboute, he was able to finally unleash a plan 10,000 years in the making. Calling upon his loyal servant Cawl, a new wave of super soldiers joined the Imperium's battles across the entire galaxy! These fresh warriors would soon be baptized by fire, emerging from the crucible of war as the newest hope for a beleaguered race. These are the Primaris Marines.

In this episode we talk about the history of the Primaris Marines. It has been mostly fleshed out at this point, so we figured it was time to put their existence into perspective. Enjoy!

Joining us for this episode is James, and for the last time Chris.

Lorehammer Lockdown: Dylan Locks the Door

April 7th, 2020

Dylan had such a great time on his last Lockdown that he wouldn't leave. He pulled out the duct tape, zip ties, and rag gags and locked the door on us. We had no choice but to bow to the Australian power he wielded and create with him another episode.

May God have mercy on your ear holes...

We hope your isolating is going well! This episode is our gift to you!

Joining us on this episode, is Dylan.

Lorehammer Lockdown: Lorehammer v. Spenny

April 6th, 2020

This is our first and last ever remote recording. We sat Spenny (an active member of our discord and a fervent believer in Lorehammer) down and chatted with him about his Warhammer 40k journey. We also talk about a couple of the barriers to entry of the hobby, and ways to circumvent them! Enjoy this latest episode of the Lorehammer Lockdown series.

Joining Mark and Erik for the first time ever, Spenny.

Lorehammer Lockdown: Peter Teaches Role Play

April 5th, 2020

We hope that you haven't gone crazy yet and that you are firmly saying "No" to the voices that have begun to speak to you from the corners of your mind. But just in case you have started to talk with them, there's a few things you should know. First, always stay in character. It doesn't help anyone's immersion if you flit between personalities all the time. Secondly, the more outrageous and outlandish the accent, the better. Really try to develop these voices that are speaking to you. Create histories for them. Create memories that you can refer back to in order to shape their character. And then, when this is all over, realize that you went too far and now you have a couple friends that will always be with you... ALWAYS.

And if you said no, well that's why we're here! To offer a distraction from those pesky boredom daemons.

Enjoy this Lockdown episode where we got Peter in to chat about a bunch of our role playing experiences, both inside and outside of 40k.

Lorehammer Lockdown: Floridacast

April 3rd, 2020

Recently, Mark spent some time down in the "Sunshine state", in the "windy city" itself! In true fashion of "keeping Florida weird" and making sure that the alligators were sated, Mark met with a fan and had a fun time chat with him! In these times where you can't even go see your friends, we figured there was nothing more beautiful than two soul partners having a meaningful conversation for the very first time. Listen as they fall in love in front of your very eyes- er... ears...

Enjoy an episode of Mark and Nic!

Lorehammer Lockdown: Ask us Anything

April 2nd, 2020

Self-isolation driving you insane? Are the pets constantly demanding attention? Is your local gaming store not letting you in, no matter how hard you bang on the glass and plead to be able to have just a single touch of shrink-wrapped goodies like please just one taste sir that's all I want I swear after that I'll leave wait no why are you calling the cops there's no need for this please!

In this episode we asked our discord for questions and boy did we get a lot. We do our best to answer them all, except for the ones that we obviously don't care about.

Joining us for this is Iain, our painting friend.

Listener Lore 10

April 1st, 2020

We continue to slog through the massive backlog of Listener Lore that we seem to have amassed over the years... No idea how that happened...

Get ready for Archmagos Azreal Grimm's Mechanicus, Cody's Necron, Bryce's Imperial Knights, and David's Imperial Knights!

Reading these stories with us for the first time ever, is Spenny!

If you have a story that you want to share with us, shoot us an email at lorehammerpodcast@gmail.com.

Lorehammer Lockdown: The Dylan Show

March 31st, 2020

Continuing our gifts of ear goodness, here is another episode from our Lockdown to yours! Self isolating or quarantining can get lonely, so we decided to bring to you the highest energy person that we know. If you've ever heard his episodes before, you know to have a quick control on that volume.

In this episode we talk about random random stuff. There doesn't seem to be any discernible pattern or flow to this so... consume at your own risk.

Joining us for this episode is Dylan, our Ork-y Aussie friend!

Lorehammer Lockdown: Painting with Iain

67 - Gene-seed Mutation

March 24th, 2020

Join us as we discuss the mutation that runs rampant through the gene-seed of the Adeptus Astartes. We talk about how it affects Chapters as a whole as well as individuals.

66 - Bestiary and Herbarum Pt. 1

March 11th, 2020

Welcome to a new kind of episode! We invite you to journey with us through the Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader written in 1987. If you have a story that you want to share, and you want us to sit on it for a couple months before we actually read it out loud, send us your lore to lorehammerpodcast@gmail.com.

Joining us for this episode are Rio and Jimothy.

65 - Abaddon’s Black Crusades Pt. 2

February 26th, 2020

"Thirteen times shall the Traitor King go forth.
In the End Times the iron fortress shall be cast down,
Its walls breached and its Gate forced open.
Those that dwell beyond shall spill through it.

The air shall burn and the ground shall melt,
The Daemon shall lie down with the machine,
Brother shall slay brother with fire and sword,
And the sky-wound shall pour its malice forth.

The Eye shall stare unblinking at its prize,
And the Traitor King shall cross the bridge of stars.
He shall return to finish the Warmonger's red work,
Upon holy soil shall the fate of man be decided." - The Liber Malefact

This episode concludes our 2 part session of the Black Crusades of Abaddon the Despoiler. Joining us for this episode are our heretical friends Tim and Jordan.

64 - Abaddon’s Black Crusades Pt. 1

February 12th, 2020

A 10,000 year Long War. The most carnage and devastation that has been visited on the galaxy since the Horus Heresy. Leader of the Black Legion and Champion of the Chaos Pantheon. Abaddon has desecrated endless holy sites in his hatred for the Emperor and the Imperium that He created. He has commanded the most successful campaign against Humanity through his Black Crusades. In this episode we discuss the first 11 of his Black Crusades, and will continue the tale of the Despoiler in our next release.

Joining us for this episode is Tim, and for the last time, Christian.

63 - Tau Between Spheres

January 29th, 2020

We last left the Tau at the end of the Second Sphere of Expansion. Stretched thin, they arrived at the Damocles Gulf, unable to cross it. In the 300 years between the 2nd and 3rd Spheres, the Tau race would be put to their greatest tests since the time of Mont'au. They would interact with three distinct races, as well as deal with their own internal problems. But the spark of hope that is the Greater Good can never go out, it will continue to shine throughout the galaxy.

Joining us for this episode is our friendly Tau lover, Rio, as well as James.

If you want more information about the Narrative Wargamer Podcast, check them out here!

62 - Dynastic Legions

January 15th, 2020

The dead rise again. Whispers of an evil spread throughout the galaxy. Planets shake as ancient sarcophagi open, and Legions awaken. The dead rise again. The Dynasties have come to claim what is theirs.

In this episode we discuss the Necron race, and the beings that swear allegiance to their Dynasties.

Joining us for this episode is Jimothy!

Bonus Episode 15 - Return of the Primarchs

January 9th, 2020

Us Prophets of the People have decided to sit down and muse upon the Primarchs. What were they like? What did they smell like? Do you think they ever wanted to just sit down and have a cheeseburger? More importantly we ask ourselves: What would it look like if a Primarch other than Roboute Guilliman had revived? Would we like that?

Joining Mark and Erik in this episode, for the last time, is Christian.

61 - The Hive Mind

January 2nd, 2020

Impossible to understand, quantify, or define. The sound of a billion billion voices is it's very essence. It's instinct; ancient. It's knowledge; immeasurable. It's hunger; insatiable. It drives the Tyranid swarm ever onward. It's will is unquestionable.

What is the Hive Mind? Where did it come from? How does it work? These are all questions that we don't know the answer to, and probably will never make the effort to learn.

Joining us for this episode are Jon, our long time Tyranid friend, and also a brand new guest, Iain!

Listener Lore 7

December 18th, 2019

We're on a roll folks!! Since we're the laziest podcasters you've ever seen, we decided to do the easy thing and just read the stories that you've submitted instead of actually doing a real episode! Pretty sneaky huh?

In this Listener Lore episode we finally get around to Brodie's Tournament winning lore, the Void Hunter Chapter of the Space Marines, Eric's 265th Mechanized Infantry Regiment Force Organization (or the MIRFO as we like to call it), Liam's Loota Kult, and William's take on another battle for Rynn's World, courtesy of the Crimson Fists Chapter.

Joining us, for the last time, is Christian. If you want to submit your story for us to share, send us an email to lorehammerpodcast@gmail.com.

Listener Lore 6

December 11th, 2019

Welcome back to our backlog of lore where we share the stories written upon the back of the 40k universe... backs.

In this episode we share stories from Syde's Dark Eldar in Commorragh, Guy's Imperial Knights, and Maci's Dark Angel Night Wing Company.

If you have stories you want to share, send them to lorehammerpodcast@gmail.com, and we promise to not make too much money off it.

Joining us for today's episode is Peter, and for the last time, Christian.

Bonus Episode 14 - Mark and Trevor Forever

December 6th, 2019

Everyone got so sick of listening to Mark, that apparently Trevor is the only person willing to talk with him! In this episode Trevor... or Mark... explain to Mark... or Trevor... all about the story behind his new Ork list! Prepare your earholes for madness...

Joining Mark and Trevor on this episode is... no one...

60 - Haemonculi Covens

November 28th, 2019

You wake up in a cold panic and strain against the bindings that hold you on the table. Your eyes dart back and forth, trying to understand, trying to wake up. The air is warm on your skin, and damp. You look down at your own body to where your legs are, and elation takes you at seeing them. Then the nightmare rushes back. You, on a table, your body being cut away inch by delicate inch at the order of a Lord of Pain. He watches you as you scream, he watches you as you die. And then, births you so it can be enjoyed again. The nightmare ends, and your screams begin before a blade even comes near your forsaken body.

This episode is all about the Haemonculi! These Underworld rulers care little for the mundane people that live today, instead concerning themselves solely with their pursuits of pleasure.

Joining us for this episode for the first time is Sam.

If you have any questions about our Community Corner get in touch with us! And check out Three Guys Mini here!

Bonus Episode 13 - Recapping the Lorehammer Game Day

November 20th, 2019

We just had our Lorehammer tournament, so Mark and Erik sat down with Todd and Canadian Steve to have a chat about it! If you missed the opportunity, don't worry! It's completely possible it happens again... sometime... somewhere...

Let your ear holes fill with jealousy and your mouth holes froth with anger upon learning what you missed.

Listener Lore 5

November 13th, 2019

Well we finally decided that people might want to hear more Listener Lore! But it's just Mark and Erik so that's kind of a bummer...

Anyways enjoy hearing about Hugh's Adeptus Mechanicus, Griff's worldbuilding, Not-a-Tyranid's Guardsmen, and Karl's Guardsmen. We're working our way through! (the massive massive backlog that is...)

If you have a story that you would like us to share, please email us at lorehammerpodcast@gmail.com.

59 - Oddboyz and Odd Boyz

November 6th, 2019

OI! YOUSE! Iz you an Oddboy?? Or iz you a Boy wot iz odd?

While Orks seem to be an unsightly rabble of yelling green monsters, they view themselves very differently. There are strict caste systems and hierarchies within Ork Kultur that are determined by A. how big you are, and B. how useful you are. And sometimes C. how lucky you are. In this episode we talk about Oddboyz, but we also talk about the Boyz that don't necessarily fit in with standard Ork Kultur. These Boyz, while not Oddboyz, are definitely odd Boyz, and deserve attention just the same!

Joining us for this episode, is Dylan, the Orkiest Aussie we know!

58 - Path of the Seer

October 23rd, 2019

Like an itch that can't be scratched. Like a voice heard, but not seen. Like a breath on your neck from someone unseen.

For most Eldar, their entire lives will be spent denying their desire to let go. To give in to the swirling energy that is constantly around them. But these are not most Eldar. Those that walk the Path of the Seer are willing to walk the razors edge. They have placed their hands into the molten ice and shaped it to their will. They have witnessed the power beyond that attempts to devour their very souls. And they stand, defiant. Devoting themselves to the protection and survival of their race, they risk their souls for this purpose.

Joining us for this discussion of the Path of the Seer is Farseer Peter.

57 - Divisio Militaris

October 10th, 2019

Beyond the mechanical Skitarii, there exist many other tendrils of the Mechanicus' power. From voidships more massive than any that the Imperium uses, to secret police, to Ordinati larger than mountains, the Divisio Militaris is broken up into 9 bodies, each responsible for a different function. In this episode, we will highlight 5 of these Divisio (with the expectation that at some point we'll talk about the Collegia Titanica. SYKE!).

If you haven't already checked out the Warhammer Combat Cards game published by Flaregames, click the link! https://go.onelink.me/qYSQ/Lorehammer

Joining us for this episode is Rio, our Xenos friend who is a little out of his wheel house on this one.

56 - Sisters of Silence, The Left Hand

September 25th, 2019

You finish your daemonic prayer to the Lords of the Waste. Your unholy invocation leaves your lips. Power grows within you. You raise your arms above your head and prepare to cast down the enemies of your Master when... it ends. The power, the pain, the blessing, all disappear. And there, striding through the haze of your euphoria, a diminutive human, in muted silver armor, the gorget covering the lower portion of her face. She stalks toward you, eyes trained on yours until it feels like nothing else in the galaxy matters except for your imminent end. A scream escapes you as she approaches. Her eyes smile as she gives you your forever doom.

If you haven't already checked out the Warhammer Combat Cards game published by Flaregames, click the link! https://go.onelink.me/qYSQ/Lorehammer

In this episode we discuss all things Sisters of Silence! These wordless warriors are Humanity's ace in the pocket for dealing with the Immaterium, and in this episode you'll find out why. Joining us for this episode are James, and Matt, a traveler all the way from the UK!

55 - Adeptus Custodes, The Right Hand

September 11th, 2019

Towering warriors clad in bright golden armor. Beings so holy that to see one is to be blessed by the God-Emperor Himself. They act of their own accord, ensuring everything they do is for the continued protection of the Savior of Humanity. They are the Adeptus Custodes, the Right Hand of the Emperor, and they bring death and destruction upon their foes.

If you haven't already checked out the Warhammer Combat Cards game published by Flaregames, click the link! https://go.onelink.me/qYSQ/Lorehammer

Joining us for this episode are Nathan, and for the last time, Christian.

54 - Imperial Planet Classification

August 27th, 2019

Aaaaaaaaaaand we're back! Sorry for the late release folks, as some little nurglings infested our computer and deleted our recording! Clearly this information is very important and so we did our very best to make sure that you get it! In this episode, we talk about bodies. Specifically, heavenly bodies. More specifically, we talk about how the Imperium classifies all planets within the galaxy. It might not be the most exciting episode (we'll do another space marine episode at some point... maybe), but it is actually quite interesting, especially for all those people that like to world-build within the 40K universe!

Joining us for this episode, is Colyn.

Bonus Episode 12 - An Impromptu Conversation

August 15th, 2019

An adoring fan drove 3 hours just to hang out with us! WOWZA! Jk he was just in the neighborhood. We sat down with Brodie and had a chat that ranged from Tau, to new Ultramarine releases, to who knows what. Don't bother listening, its definitely not worth your time.

53 - Heretic Astartes
